Southern Beauty: What is the most important beauty step for women to do when applying makeup?
Bobbi Brown: Always start with a great base, which means clean, well-cared for skin. Cleanse, exfoliate (if needed) and moisturize thoroughly before applying any makeup.

SB: When did you realize that you wanted to become a makeup artist?
BB: As a child I was always fascinated watching my mother put on makeup. As soon as I could reach it, I was in her makeup box painting my dolls and my own face.

SB: The south doesn't transition to Fall when the fashion industry does.  What beauty tips can you give us?
BB: Instead of switching to heavier foundation and moisturizer like everyone else, just incorporate the new colors into your beauty routine. For instance, this fall add some taupey greys into your makeup collection for an updated look even in the hotter weather.

SB: For the younger women.  When should you start taking care of their skin?
BB: You’re never too young to start. The earlier you can get into your routine the better. As a teen you should be cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing, never forgetting your SPF. Also, start using an eye cream to keep your eye area hydrated.

SB: What is the most important product that you keep with you at all times?
BB: Concealer can do more for your face than any other makeup. The right concealer makes dark circles disappear and instantly gives your face a lift.

SB: What are some of your favorite beauty products that you can't live without?
BB: Nothing makes a woman look prettier than a pop of blush. It’s an instant lift and the quickest way to add a healthy glow to the face. Gloss is the fastest way to make lips look fuller, and it’s also great for layering over any other lipstick. And last but not least, lining the eyes is the number one way to make them stand out.  I recently rediscovered black gel liner and it’s a great choice, even for women who like a natural makeup look.

SB:
Can you let us know about any new products that you are working on?
BB: This holiday, I am coming out with a Pink Quartz collection. Pink Quartz is a really fun, pretty way to add sparkle to your holiday makeup.  Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick is really pretty and really fresh.  For evening, I like to add black liner and a few coats of really black mascara to make the look both fresh and pretty and strong.  What’s really great about Pink Quartz is that it’s pretty, but strong.  The pink shimmer makes it pretty, and the black liner makes it strong.
